KIND WORDS FOR TURNER...

Louder Than War’s Jeff Mason has been listening to our new artist of the day Louise Turner, former session singer with the like’s of Elbow and Primal Scream as she launches her solo career as Turner.

Singer songwriter Louise Turner as spent the last few years keeping herself very busy, not as a solo artist, but as a session singer.
A very in-demand session singer… & with a string of collaborations & guest appearances on tunes featuring Primal Scream’s Denise Johnson, Manc poet & song-writer Edward Barton, indie outfit Bluebird Kid Clark etc, Louise even lent her vocal talents to a top 10 dance chart hit with Frater & Stent!

After singing on the Mercury Prize-winning & platinum-selling album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ with Elbow, Salford-based Louise teamed up with the successful “Art & Soul” band DC Fontana from 2012 to 2013, and enjoyed a busy action packed year gigging around the country and receiving fantastic reviews for the bands EP “Pentagram Man”.

But her dream was to become a solo artist, so earlier this year she decided it was time to make the break and leave DC Fontana.

She as now teamed up with producer/musician Yves Altana (The Chameleons/ I am kloot), and within a few weeks her plans have started to fall into place, a unique fusion of psyche/ soul/ pop and art is being created.

With hints of Debbie Harry, Nico and Dusty Springfield to her very powerful voice, “Turner” is well and truly ready to make her mark in the music world.

This multi talented young lady as much to offer. Eye-catching & ear-catching, Louise can also play acoustic guitar & various percussion instruments.

In my opinion ‘Turner’ is one to watch out for in 2013, and I can’t wait for the EP release.

The Turner EP will be available by limited physical copies on May 1st and will feature 6 tracks with hidden surprises.

Turner’s website can be found here. She can also be found on Facebook here and on Twitter as @turnersalford

JEFF MASON FOR LOUDER THAN WAR

TURNER IS ARTIST OF THE DAY ON "LOUDER THAN WAR".....

"With her platinum Bob, Panda Kohl eyes and expressive voice...part Dusty/ Part Nico/ Part Debbie Harry, She's very adaptable to many styles and sounds" Jon Mills- NO OTHER PRESS/ EDITOR- IN- CHIEF AT SHINDIG

'I REALLY LIKE HER VOICE!"- Peter Hook.

Louise Turner is a singer songwriter from Salford, whose pure, yet strong, vocals puts her on a par with the likes of Olivia Newton John and Eva Cassidy, whilst oozing a contemporary freshness in her pristine and melancholic music. With her spacious and unravelling catalogue of sounds, Turner makes you immediately feel at ease, allowing you to drift away to your own inner sanctuary and soak up the exquisite sounds. Along with her good looks and vintage charm, Turner is an accomplished songwriter and experienced singer. Having worked as a session singer with Elbow, DC Fontana and Edward Barton, Turner has been busy in the studio working on her debut EP “This is Turner”. Produced by Yves Altana, (who has worked with I am Kloot, Mark Burgess and Peter Hook), “This is Turner” is due to be released on May 1st 2013 and will feature my single of the week.

“Loves Me Not” is a hauntingly beautiful song whose stunning and classically composed vocals magnetise the deep-seated melancholy. Along with its heartfelt lyrics and baroque/classical backdrop of sounds, “Loves Me Not” cuts deep into a sorrowful vein. With its wistful piano, staccato violin strokes and sweeping cello, “Loves Me Not” is elegantly poised, whilst striking you with a windswept melodrama. Along with its springy bass and curving space-rock riffs, “Loves Me Not” projects an understated barren grandiose that heads towards Pink Floyd territory, without eclipsing the moonlight motif.

Now working with Kati Jagel on a fusion of art noir and pop art videos, Turners musical career is on the up, hailing her as one of Salfords rising new stars.
